After beta testing in the latter half of 2023, the eagerly anticipated game One Punch Man: World has finally launched, available now on PC and Android and iOS mobile devices. Developed by T3 Studio and published by Crunchyroll Games, One Punch Man: World is one of the more ambitious and expansive licensed titles to get a simultaneous mobile release. Several of the issues present in the beta persist into the game’s launch build, but once players see the full context, their inclusion does make sense.
For the purposes of full disclosure, this review was primarily conducted on the PC version provided by Crunchyroll, rather than the mobile version. Impressions from the mobile release were run on the general iOS release on an iPhone 15 after the wide launch in late January. Any significant differences between the two versions of the game are noted below. To the developers’ credit, One Punch Man: World is optimized to provide a very similar gameplay experience on both platforms.

One Punch Man: World Closed Beta Offers an Extended Glimpse at the Hard-Hitting Game
The closed beta for One Punch Man: World teases an ambitious and immersive tour of the fan-favorite anime series universe. Here are CBR’s impressions.
As one might expect, One Punch Man: World adapts the enormously popular manga/anime franchise One-Punch Man, created by One, hewing close to the anime’s presentation. This fidelity to the source material also applied to the voice cast from the anime and the source material’s cheeky sense of humor, both of which were present in the game. There are occasional deviations from the source material given the game’s focus on the supporting cast rather than Saitama, but everything feels tonally and narratively true to the world and characters that One created.
At launch, One Punch Man: World adapted the events of the first two seasons of the hit anime. The game covers the adventures of Saitama, a superhero so overpowered that he destroys opponents with a single punch—much to his chagrin. The game allowed players to control many colorful figures within the Hero Association, the league established to defend Japan from the rise of intimidating supervillains and literal monsters. Players embark on a variety of missions and side quests as they explore different cities in Japan, while taking on epic challenges and duels from the Hero Association’s headquarters.
One Punch Man: World’s Presentation Can Be a Bit Clunky
Can Genos Beat Saitama In One Punch Man?
Genos is one of One Punch Man’s most popular characters, but can he defeat Saitama?
One Punch Man: World has the same vibrant visual sensibilities as the anime, featuring an animation style that makes the whole game feel like a natural extension of the show. Though the game runs well on modern mobile devices, its visual quality truly comes to life on a PC running on maximized technical settings, especially with the widescreen display possible on this platform. In a nice change from modern gaming, One Punch Man: World isn’t particularly system-intensive. Most modern rigs shouldn’t have trouble running the game, including its various online modes.
In terms of interface, there are quite a few menus to navigate in One Punch Man: World. This can take some getting used to, whether it’s selecting which of the different game modes to play, or flipping through the different in-game shops where more gear and customizable features can be unlocked. This is a game that can feel a bit girthy, despite it being a mobile game. Some of these processes and menus, and especially the tutorial, could have been streamlined to something less dragged out and prolonged. The menus and pop-ups aren’t especially intrusive to the gameplay, and the world maps themselves are easy to navigate. However, One Punch Man: World is a big game that can potentially overwhelm players expecting a more casual experience from a mobile game.
One Punch Man: World’s Combat Is Accessible to Everyone
Is Blast One Punch Man’s Second Strongest Character?
Blast is one of the most mysterious characters in One Punch Man. But is he the second-strongest hero?
As with the San Diego Comic-Con demo and beta testing period, combat in One Punch Man: World takes place within a 3D arena. Each player gets a mix of basic attacks, dashes and character-specific special moves. Combat on the PC, using the mouse and keyboard, is slightly more intuitive than using a smart device’s touchscreen. That said, the disparity between the two platforms isn’t an especially glaring one. The combat is meant to be accessible and easy to follow. One Punch Man: World delivers on that promise, and provides an excellent, if overly extensive, tutorial mode to cover all the nuances of the gameplay.
It’s also important to point out that One Punch Man: World isn’t a single-player system. It also has robust online multiplayer capabilities available at launch, from cooperative play to the standard player-vs-player (PVP) mode. These online versus modes come in the form of both single combat and team-based skirmishes, capturing the chaotic gameplay of One Punch Man: World relatively seamlessly. Connectivity and latency at launch are solid on both PC and mobile platforms, giving One Punch Man: World a firm foundation as it continues to roll out content.
One Punch Man: World’s Scope Is Larger Than Anyone Expected
One Punch Man: 10 Strongest S-Class Heroes, Ranked
One Punch Man has plenty of powerful S-Class heroes, but only characters like Tatsumaki, Genos, and Blast rank among their absolute strongest.
There are a lot of playable characters to choose from in One Punch Man: World. Players can pick ancillary characters such as Bang or Max, major supporting characters like Genos and Fubuki, and of course, Saitama himself. Each character has their own set of unique moves and effective combat strategies, unlockable content and more to explore, offering the game much of its depth. Like most PC and mobile titles of this era, there are regular challenges and rewards to keep players coming back for more. These challenges are already fully up and running at the game’s launch.
Similarly, several cities and other locales from the anime are playable in One Punch Man: World. This includes bustling city streets and alleys and quieter suburban areas. Each location comes with its own interactable characters and side quests for players to pick up. Within the cities themselves are interior establishments, like convenience stores and game centers. Each one comes with their own activities, while the Hero Association headquarters serves as the game’s primary hub. If the roster size and variety demonstrates One Punch Man: World‘s depth, the number of environments and options within each new map illustrates its breadth as a true love letter to the franchise.
